Colon cleansing

Colon is the last portion of the digestive system which extracts salt and water from solid wastes and then eliminates them from the body.

Colon cleansing refers to a process of detoxifying body and cleansing it off parasites and other waste materials in order to prevent toxicity. The objective is to regain normal bowel movement that gets affected due to presence of harmful toxins and to help in absorption of essential nutrients.

If colon remains blocked by waste matter, toxins have no exit route and they get back into the body leading to bloating, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The reasons for colon blockage are diet full of saturated fats like red meats, fried food and fast food that have high content of salt. Colon might also get blocked due to low intake of water and fluids.

The colon can be cleaned with the use laxatives and by the use of enema. Good bacteria can also be introduced into digestive system to cleanse it of harmful bacteria. To further prevent colon from getting blocked, restrictive diet consisting of vegetable and fruits should be followed along with consumption of products having high and natural fiber and Vitamin C. Drinking plenty of water can go a long way in keeping colon clean. Vegetables such as green peas, spinach, beets, carrots, turnip, eggplant and broccoli have enough roughage and dietary fiber to cleanse colon.
